Family Planning Funding
Each year, more than four million low income women across the U.S. receive family planning services from clinics that receive funding from federal Title X programs. These services fill an unmet need for women who often have inadequate or no health insurance. Services offered at Title X funded health centers include family planning services, family planning counseling, pelvic and breast exams, screening for anemia, diabetes, and high blood pressure, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, safer sex counseling; basic infertility screening; and referrals to specialized health care.
Planned Parenthood of Illinois provided health care to nearly 70,000 women, men and teens last year alone. A quarter of these women, men and teens were able to receive vital reproductive health care services through federal Title X funding. The demand for services increases every year, yet Title X funding remains far below what is needed to serve this demand. We need elected officials who will help increase funding for the Title X family planning program in Illinois and across the U.S.
